What Is a Hernia?
In a healthy body, muscles and other structures hold the abdominal organs in place. Sometimes, however, the abdominal wall or another area becomes weakened and the soft tissue bulges outwards, creating a hernia. Hernias can affect the abdomen, the lower chest, and in the case of an inguinal hernia, the groin.
Symptoms of a Hernia
Not all hernias cause symptoms, and not every patient will require treatment. Some people can have the condition for a considerable amount of time before it becomes apparent. Depending on the type of hernia and whether it involves your abdominal wall or your groin, you might experience:
- An obvious lump or bulge
- Pressure or pain
- A dull ache
- A pinching sensation

Once the incision or incisions have been created, Dr. Cabrera will gently return the protruding tissue to its normal position and use a specialized type of mesh or stitches to hold it in place. Once the incisions are closed, the procedure is complete.
